The Circle of Light Murals

 

In 1994, to inspire Navajo youth with positive role models, Ellis Tanner commissioned Navajo artist Chester Kahn to paint murals of prominent Navajos on the walls of his business, Ellis Tanner Trading Company. 

Ellis wants to encourage Navajo youth to take pride in their culture, language, history, and traditions. The seven-year mural project represents distinguished Navajo people of the twentieth century.

The murals can be viewed still at Ellis Tanner Trading Company at 1980 State Highway 602, Gallup, New Mexico.
